Waste to Wealth
  ________________________________________________________________________________________

Thousands of tons of non-segregated garbage flow into the dumping yards in cities every day creating health and environmental hazard to those who live nearby. Farmers are unable to shift to organic farming in a big way mainly because there is no organized supply chain to regularly supply the required quantity and quality of organic manure as it is found in the case of chemical fertilizer.

Through this program we will recover naturally compost garbage from non-segregated garbage by sieving and in the process create livelihood for Self Help Groups (SHG) in recovery and marketing of sieved compost as organic manure. This would also avoid use of naturally composted garbage for land fill and the government looking for new sites for dumping garbage.

We have developed a three-ton capacity per day low cost MOBILE HAND OPERATED SIEVING MACHINE. This will sieve and separate non-degradable materials from non-segregated garbage and recover 80% of naturally compost garbage from the dumps. The sieved compost are then filled in bags of 50 kilos by involving urban/rural SHG and make it available off the shelf to farmers by establishing rural community marketing networks. Each machine costs US $500 and creates job at the rate for five persons per machine. Due to low outlay per job created, the income from the produce will be US $25 per day and this means an earning of US $5 per day per person. No electricity is required; the machine is mobile and can be moved to places where there is garbage rather than moving the garbage to the machine. This enables productive use of garbage, creates thousands of sustainable livelihood opportunities for the poor, helps clear millions of tons of garbage piled up in rural and urban garbage dumping yards and promotes organic farming. Minimum skill is required for fabrication, operation and maintenance of the unit and there is unlimited scope for replication and up-scaling to any part of the world.
